Paul Zimmerman
CEO
Paul Zimmerman has built and run global businesses across 35 countries and 5 continents over the last 20 years. Prior to joining Angstrom Power Mr. Zimmerman served as President of Oregon Scientific, Inc. where he was responsible for all aspects of operations in North America including sales, marketing, product management, finance, human resources and distribution. Before joining Oregon Scientific, Paul was a founding Managing Director of the Softbank Asia Infrastructure Fund (SAIF) - a $2B private equity fund founded with Cisco Systems Inc. Paul joined SAIF directly from Cisco Systems Inc. where he was a senior director responsible for the wireless business across the Asia-Pacific region. Paul has also served as General Manager with Samsung Electronics global telecom division in Seoul, Korea where he was responsible for building and leading the company's expansion into Eastern Europe, South America and Asia. Paul holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Toronto and a Master of Business Administration from the International Institute of Management Development in Switzerland.
Dr. Ged McLean
President and CTO
Prior to founding Angstrom Power, Dr. McLean was Director of the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. He received his Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees from the department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He has extensive background in PEM fuel cell systems design, with over 40 patents and applications for inventions in stack topology, manufacturing and manifolding. Dr. McLean has a broad background in engineering design with applications including, embedded systems for structural monitoring, machine vision, automated photogrammetry, bicycle components and testing, and assistive devices for people with disabilities. He has worked in the oil and gas industry and has been involved in startup ventures to commercialize novel data acquisition systems.
John Lee
COO
John Lee has over 25 years of experience in management at electrical and power technology companies, and has held senior positions in Finance, Operations, Engineering, and Sales. Mr. Lee has lived and worked in Canada and around the world, traveling to more than 60 countries. He has extensive experience in alternative energy technologies, and has worked on Solar, Fuel Cell and Advanced Battery systems from engineering development through commercialization to profitability. Mr. Lee has also developed his own micro hydro river powered generation system. He holds an Applied Science (Engineering) and Commerce dual degree from the University of British Columbia.
Godfrey Forssman
Director of Finance
Godfrey Forssman is a Chartered Accountant with a broad range of practical experience as CFO in a variety of growing entrepreneurial companies. He has more than 12 years of experience in public accounting with extensive operational management responsibility for accounting departments in large public companies. Before joining Angstrom Power, he was CFO for Vortek Industries, a hardware high-tech. company providing manufacturing and test equipment to the semiconductor and satellite launch industries.
Dr. Jeremy Schrooten
Director of Fuel Cell Systems
Dr. Schrooten received Bachelor of Science degrees in both Chemistry and Ceramic Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Iowa State University. Prior to joining Angstrom Power, Dr. Schrooten was a member of the Cell Stack Assembly group at UTC Fuel Cells, with a focus on advanced technology development. Dr. Schrooten is credited with four patents prior to joining Angstrom Power, three while at Angstrom Power and 10 published patent applications while at Angstrom.
Olen Vanderleeden
Director of Business Development
Olen Vanderleeden holds a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria and an MBA from Simon Fraser University. Prior to joining Angstrom Power, Mr. Vanderleeden worked at Ballard Power for eight years where he held management roles in R&D. Mr. Vanderleeden is credited with four patents during his time at Ballard and seven while with Angstrom Power. He also has seven published patent applications.
André van Vuuren
Director of Production
André van Vuuren has extensive experience in Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management with a track record in New Product Introduction of high technology products from engineering prototype through volume production. Before joining Angstrom Power, he was responsible for the product qualification, process development and operations at Glenayre Electronics, OctigaBay and the Vulcan FlipStart UMPC product. André holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pretoria.
Joerg Zimmermann
Director of Fueling Research and Development
Joerg Zimmermann was previously in the R&D department at Ballard Power Systems for six years in various roles including manager. Mr. Zimmermann holds a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Zimmermann is a named inventor on 25 patents and patents pending. His patent holdings include six patents issued prior to joining Angstrom and 22 published patent applications, 18 of which contribute to Angstrom's patent portfolio.
Jim McBeth
Director of Manufacturing Engineering
Jim McBeth has a wide range of experience in R&D, product development and manufacturing. After starting his career in the sub-sea industry, he joined Teleflex Inc. where he managed Engineering, and ultimately a division, while supporting rapid growth in global markets. Subsequently, as a Director General with the National Research Council of Canada, Mr. McBeth built the Vancouver Institute with a Canadian Manufacturing Industry mandate and subsequently supported its evolution to a Fuel Cell focus. Mr. McBeth was later CEO of Palcan Fuel Cells, which successfully closed a public offering that bridged September 11, 2001. Most recently, he was VP of Engineering at Race Face Components, where he successfully launched an Asian manufacturing division and developed technologies suitable for Canadian manufacture. Mr. McBeth holds 10 patents.
Steven Pratt
Director of Engineering
For more than 15 years, Steven Pratt’s focus has been on maturing and commercializing emerging technologies. Prior to joining Angstrom Power, Mr. Pratt co-founded Gecko Energy Technologies, Inc, and spent 12 years at Motorola, where he was a distinguished member of the technical staff and a program manager for design and development of concept products. He is also an expert in design for Six Sigma, reliability, manufacturing and IP development. Mr. Pratt holds more than 40 patents in fields ranging from fuel cells and manufacturing processes, to user-interface design and business methods. He is a Motorola Master Innovator, a registered Professional Engineer in Florida, and a Motorola and ASQ certified Six Sigma Black Belt. He holds B.Eng and M.Eng degrees in mechanical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey.
